day in Hawaii

We started the day by bringing our flower leis to my father’s grave at Punchbowl National Cemetery. When we visited the Japanese cemetery in Wainae, my Mom and I argued about the food left at the grave sites. She was angry that the Buddhist would leave this food and I tried to explain that it was a symbolic act of respect and the ancestors were not going to come out of the ground at night and peel and eat that orange.  It was interesting that we saw a gravesite at Punchbowl that had two empty bottles of Primo beer and I ask my Mom who she thought drank those beers?  Anyway, a photo of diamond head from punchbowl and some misc. headstones.primo beer and flowersdiamond head from punchbowl

Greatest Mom in the World

Barbara and I were having fun with Mom. I took Tommy’s baseball trophy and made a note for Mom and asked her to hold the trophy. I told my Mom that we’re going to have lots more fun with her when she totally looses her mind.

The greatest Mom in the world!

back in the land where the palm trees sway

Back in the islands and visiting my mother again, but this time with my sister. We were excited to find out the Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonald are performing at the Waikiki Shell. It’s the first time in a long time while visiting that I’d had the opportunity to see someone fun in Waikiki. Today is Sunday and my sister, Barbara and I went to Ala Moana Shopping Center to poke around and shop at Macy’s, Neimans and Shirokya’s. On the way back we went to Tamishiro’s Seafood Market. We bought Ahi poke, Tako poke, edamame, purple sweet potato and shrimp. All for our Oscar party tonight. Below are pictures that I took on the way home; eaten Opihi shells in the Tamashiro Market and heliconia flowers that I noticed blooming on the side of the road.

proteas.com

sad day today. Lynn Sussman’s husband, Chuck Sussman passed away on February 14th. Michelle and I sent Lynn a bouquet of proteas from the Big Island. Hopefully the beauty of the flowers can distract Lynn from her grief. Much Aloha to the Sussmans. www.proteas.com
